Walcha, NSW | 2007

This design studio required an ecological research and rehabilation station housing 7-8 scientists/researchers with one station ranger comfortably. Annually, the occupants would change and on occasion family and friends could visit or briefly stay. The design approach was prescriptive with an emphasis on sustainable design with fully integrated systems concerning supply and waste. The site located in Walcha (near Armidale, NSW) was subject to seasonal bush fires and sub-zero degree weather and this introduced many challenges for an architecture that is neither imposing or closed.
